CMQG October 2026 Meeting Notes

The Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild (CMQG) Monthly Meeting began at 7pm October 8, 2026 as an in-person only meeting at the Corvallis Museum with Colleen Powers presiding. Thirty-seven people attended, including one guest. This was the guild’s annual business meeting.

Business

For 2027 we elected President – Alice Marshall, Vice-president – Carah Garstka, Treasurer – Sara Power (returning), Secretary – Nancy Lundeen, Membership – Mary Breckenridge. Helen Bass will help Mary with membership. Many thanks to this year’s officers for making 2026 such a success for the guild. Especially to Colleen Powers for the great work she has done these past three years!

The guild passed a budget for 2027. Thanks to Alice, Sara and Susan for preparing the budget. The guild now has a reserve fund and is in better shape financially than it was a few years ago.

Program

Alice Marshall gave a presentation on Bindings and Edges. Too often a quilt’s binding is an after-thought. We use something simple to get the quilt finished. Alice showed us that there are lots of fun ways to finish the quilt that enhance the quilt’s design, including prairie points, loops, several binding methods, and others. She displayed several of these and JC displayed two methods she had used. Alice urged members to look at the MQG website for information. She will put links on the CMQG website to instructions on the quilt finishing techniques she presented.

November 12 Meeting

This will be a Zoom-only meeting as our regular meeting space is not available. The program will feature the guild’s donation quilts.

December 10 Meeting

This will be our annual holiday potluck. Please contact Alice if you would like to help with planning. We will also need volunteers to help with setup, take down, etc. Elfster will be used to organize a gift exchange and SignUpGenius for the volunteer sign up. There will be more information next month.

QuiltCon

The guild’s QuiltCon quilt top is done and is a lovely abstract representation of Mary’s Peak. Members are encouraged to submit their quilts for display at QuiltCon. Several members will be attending.

Get ’Er Done

This month’s number was 9. Candy announced that next month’s number is 5. Winners will be chosen at the December meeting. Deb will lead this program in 2027.

Made Fabric Block Exchange

Participants made house blocks for Colleen Powers. Next month it is X Marks the Spot blocks for Lisa Ebersole. See the Groups page on the CMQG website for instructions.

Show and Tell

Five people displayed S&T items. This is always a fun part of the meeting, and we encourage people to bring their creations for us to see.

Website Volunteers

Thank you to Ann and JC for being our website administrator and website content coordinator for the past several years. They will be replaced in 2027 by Laurie Waite-Reed and Hilary Ely.

Modern Burgoyne Surrounded Challenge/ Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show Exhibit 2027

Members are invited to create their own modern interpretation of the traditional Burgoyne Surrounded design. We will reveal our creations at the June meeting, please no reveals until then. See the Challenges area of the CMQG website for more information.

CMQG held two member-only retreats in both 2025 and 2026. The Retreat Coordinator helps plan these weekends, coordinates registrations and volunteers, and keeps retreat information organized.
