August 2026
August 13, 2026 CMQG Monthly Meeting
The August 13, 2026 meeting of the Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild (CMQG) was conducted at the Corvallis Museum. Colleen P., President, convened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. Susan S. welcomed the 57 people attending the meeting, which included 10 guests.
Announcements
The “Save the Date” for our Fall Retreat was announced. It is hoped that the retreat will occur the 3rd or 4th weekend in September.
Program: Niraja Lorenz
The CMQG was delighted to welcome Eugene artist Niraja Lorenz as our guest speaker at the August meeting. Niraja shared how she uses both color and strip piecing as a design tool to create intricate patterns and organic-looking textures that often appear far more complex than they really are. She often works with strips as narrow as a quarter inch in her compositions. In addition, Niraja shared a delightful collection of her quilts, giving the audience the opportunity to explore her work up close.
QuiltCon 2027 Community Outreach Challenge Quilt
Alice M. led a membership discussion regarding the collaborative project to design the QuiltCon Challenge Quilt. Two different concepts were presented to the membership. Following the presentations, the membership voted their preference. We now have a direction to move forward with the project. The goal is to have a final concept by early September and sewing to begin at the retreat in late September.
Get ’Er Done
Members shared their #3 completed projects with guild members. Those members completing the #3 project will have their name submitted into the drawing to be held at the end of the year. Anyone interested in learning more about Get ’Er Done may contact Candy W. The project to be completed for the September meeting is #9.
Made Fabric Block Exchange
Completed jar blocks were given to Sara P. to be used in a project of her choice. Candy W. presented her block concept for the August exchange of blocks to be completed by the September meeting. Information about constructing the block can be found on the guild website in the group section.
Show and Tell
Various members of the guild shared their delightful quilts with the membership.
