July 9, 2026 CMQG Monthly Meeting

The July 9, 2026 meeting of the Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild (CMQG) was conducted at MLK Park at the Walnut Barn. Colleen P., President, convened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. with about 32 people attending, including four family members and one prospective new member.

Announcements

  • The Modern Burgoyne Surrounded BOM, which was officially due in September, has been revised to July 2027 for the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show special exhibit. It was selected as one of only ten special exhibits for the July 10, 2027 show. Please check the website regarding both construction information and quilt size restrictions for the exhibition.

  • The collaborative project to design the QuiltCon Community Challenge Quilt continues in its development stages. Fabric is available to borrow from Alice for those members wishing to play with design ideas. The goal is to have a final concept ready for submission no later than September 15, 2026.

  • The August 13, 2026 meeting will be a presentation by artist Niraja Lorenz, where she will share how she uses strip piecing as a design tool to create intricate patterns and organic-looking textures that often appear far more complex than they really are. She’ll also be bringing a collection of her quilts, giving us the opportunity to see her work up close. There will be a ten dollar charge to attend the event for non-guild members.

Program: Summer Picnic

We enjoyed an evening of good food, conversation, and Show and Tell. It was a relaxed way to spend the time together outside the sewing room and a wonderful reminder that our guild is as much about community as it is quilting.

Get ’Er Done

Members shared their #7 completed projects with guild members. Those members completing the #7 project will have their name submitted into the drawing to be held at the end of the year. Anyone interested in learning more about Get ’Er Done may contact Candy W. The project to be completed for the July meeting is #3.

Made Fabric Block Exchange

Completed 5-inch blocks were given to Mieke V. to be used in a project of her choice. Mieke V. presented her quilt concept for the June exchange of blocks. Sara P. presented her challenge for the next month — making jars of fabric — to be completed by the August meeting. Information about constructing the block can be found on the guild website in the group section.

Show and Tell

Various members of the guild shared their delightful creations with the membership.
