The October meeting of the Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild (CMQG) was conducted at the Corvallis Museum. Colleen, President, convened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. Joyce, membership Chair, welcomed thirty-two members and two guests to the evening meeting.
President’s Year-to-Date Message from Colleen
“This has been such a creative and energizing year for our guild. We began 2025 focusing on sustainability and using what we have – then explored new techniques, design ideas, and creative freedom through our programs and our new Guild Lab format. Each month has offered something different – from sharpening our skills and sharing QuiltCon inspiration, to hands-on experiments, quilting hacks, and reflections on our artistic identity. Our challenges – Get ’Er Done, Scrappy Triangles, and especially Honoring the Woman Farmer – have kept members sewing, learning, and sharing. That last one, in particular, is connecting story and design in ways that will carry forward into next year’s exhibits. We’ve also grown our sense of community through small groups, retreats, and outreach – from donation quilts to our fabric sale and new exhibit opportunities. It’s been a year that reminds us what makes this guild special: creativity, collaboration, and the joy of making things together.”
Annual Business Meeting
The annual meeting was held this evening for the purpose of electing the Board of Directors for the upcoming year and to conduct any additional guild business. The new officers are:
President: Colleen Powers
Vice President: Alice Marshall
Secretary: Marty Stowers
Treasurer: Sara Power
Membership: Susan Sage
Susan is new to the board and is replacing Joyce Loper. Susan has been a guild member since 2017. Her addition to the board will provide a positive influence to the board and the guild. Joyce is stepping down after two years of service. During her last term in office, the guild added twenty-three new members. Joyce’s dedication to the board and guild is much appreciated. In addition to the election of officers, guild members received a summary of current finances from Sara. Also, Alice explained her plans to develop a new program task force during the upcoming months.
Program
Guild member, Sheila L., provided insight and information about the Bayeux Tapestry and the Jersey Occupation Tapestry. Sheila shared a personal reflection as to how her family’s Jersey heritage and historic tapestries influence her quilting. Guild members were offered an optional challenge to create a quilt inspired by their own family history or heirloom.

There are currently three opportunities for upcoming quilt display exhibits.

Several members showed their completed #7 project on their Get ’Er Done list. The names of the October Get ’Er Done participants will be placed in the final cash drawing to be held in December. Members may still join in the fun and be entered into the drawing for cash at the end of the year and have the satisfaction of finishing projects. To participate in the Get ’Er Done Project, contact Candy. The project number drawn to be completed by the November meeting is #3.
Donation Quilts
Members wishing to make a quilt donation to the guild should contact Mieke.
Library of Things
JC reminded members that items in the Library of Things are available for members to borrow. She has added some rulers, quilting rulers, templates, and three sets of different color cards (AGF, Kona, and Moda Bella) to the library. Members were reminded that a spreadsheet of available items in the Library of Things can be found on the guild’s website under the general Resources section. The spreadsheet includes a photo along with a description of the item and the manufacturer. To check out or return items, come to a meeting or Sew Day, or contact JC.
