The June meeting of the Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild (CMQG) was conducted at the Corvallis Museum. Colleen, President, convened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. with 47 attendees, three of which were guests. Joyce, Membership Chair, welcomed guests Heidi, Nansi (Kim’s mother), and Ils (Mieke’s sister, visiting from the Netherlands). New CMQG member Lisa gave a brief introduction of herself. We currently have 83 CMQG members. Joyce explained to the guild the process that members should follow to indicate preferences for photos to be shared on social media. A red dot placed on your name badge will indicate that no picture should be used.
Program
A panel discussion, “Your Artist Identity”, was led by Alice with participating guild members Beth, Derrith, and Carah. The topic of conversation was identifying as an artist. The panel members shared when and under what circumstances they determined that they were artists. Also, who determines that they are artists. A common theme of the panel members was finding time to create every day even if it is done in small segments. Derrith recommended The Work of Art by Adam Moss for insights into the topic of artist identity. After the panel discussion, the guild members were placed in small groups to continue the discussion of artist identity. At the conclusion of the program, an artist identity challenge was announced: to design a personal mark that would represent your artist identity. Details of the challenge can be found on the website.

Our new way to communicate within the guild membership is the All Member Group on our website. You must click on the link “View Post” which takes you to the group within our website, where you reply to the post within the group. You can also log in to the group on our website and find the post directly from the members group area.
QuiltCon 2025
The 2025 CMQG QuiltCon quilt will be displayed in Sisters, OR, for the entire month of July as part of a business sponsorship for the Sisters quilt show event.
Donation Quilts
Members wishing to obtain a quilt kit for a donation quilt may contact Colleen or Mieke. Mieke will be establishing sew days to be held in August at her home for the purpose of working on donation quilt kits. Mieke also collected the challenge “White & Bright” blocks from various members. She will be designing a quilt using these blocks contributed by guild members.
Library of Things
JC reminded members that items in the Library of Things are available for members to borrow. She has added some rulers, quilting rulers, templates, and three sets of different color cards (AGF, Kona, and Moda Bella) to the library. Members were reminded that a spreadsheet of available items in the Library of Things can be found on the guild’s website under the general resources section. The spreadsheet includes a photo along with a description of the item and the manufacturer. To check out or return items, come to a meeting, Sew Day, or contact JC.
