The January meeting of the Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild (CMQG) was conducted via a Zoom session. Colleen P., President, convened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. Colleen introduced new member Jessica H. and mentioned that Sondra F. was also a new member. However, Sondra F. was not in attendance for the Zoom meeting. In all, 33 members participated in the Zoom meeting.
Announcements
Members were reminded to sign up to help with the Winter Retreat.
Carah G. has machine-sewn the binding onto our QuiltCon Community Quilt – Porcelain Radiance. Help is needed to finish the hand stitching of the binding on the quilt. Volunteers willing to help with this activity will meet at the Corvallis Museum, upstairs in the board meeting room, on either January 10th or the 11th. Colleen will contact those interested in helping to provide final details.
A few more volunteers are needed to help on the committee organizing Quilts in the Garden, June 20, 2026. Those interested should reach out to Joyce L.
The February 12, 2026, monthly meeting speaker will be Karla Alexander - Lift the Quilts Out of Your Stash. Along with her lecture, Karla will include a trunk show of her work.
2026 MQG Theme – Use the Fabric
Our 2026 theme, Use the Fabric, is inspired by resources and programming from the Modern Quilt Guild that encourage makers to work intentionally with all fabric – new fabric, stash fabric, scraps, and reclaimed materials. Throughout the year, we’ll highlight relevant MQG resources and share ways CMQG members can choose to engage with this theme in ways that support their own creative interests.
Program
The basics of using the CMQG website were reviewed, with a focus on the All Member Group and how to update your member profile so your name displays correctly. This portion of the program was specific to CMQG and should help members navigate our website more easily and stay connected to guild communications and resources. Both the public and the members-only sections of the website were addressed. Because we all get inundated with emails, our website is the best way to keep up-to-date. Also, it was noted that at the bottom of the member pages, icons for MQG, Facebook, and Instagram can be found. These icons will provide direct links to the various websites.
2026 Block of the Month: Modern Burgoyne Surrounded
Susan C. Introduced the 2026 Modern Burgoyne Surrounded Block of the Month, a nine-month project inspired by a “found” quilt top. Susan has been working on creating a pattern and plan for us to complete the project. There are so many possibilities! You could even make this wonky if you don’t like following a pattern. More details, downloads, and updates will be shared on the Challenge page of the CMQG soon.
