The February 12, 2026 meeting of the Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild (CMQG) was conducted at the Corvallis Museum. Colleen P., President, convened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. and graciously welcomed our 27 guests to the meeting. In all, 80 people attended the evening meeting — 27 guests and 53 members.
Announcements
The Winter Retreat was once again a successful and enjoyable event. The guild is looking for a member to volunteer as the Retreat Coordinator for future retreats. The role would involve organizing and helping things run smoothly for the retreats. Checklists and structures have already been put in place that would help the coordinator in their role. Interested members should contact Colleen P. or Alice M.
Program
Our 2026 theme, Use the Fabric, is inspired by resources and programming from the Modern Quilt Guild that encourage makers to work intentionally with all fabric — new fabric, stash fabric, scraps, and reclaimed materials. Karla Alexander’s lecture, Lift the Quilts Out of Your Stash, definitely aligned with the guild’s 2026 theme. Karla’s stories and trunk show of her work provided insights as to how to use your stash in a whole new way. Karla considers a quilt an extension of a hug. Karla shared ideas and techniques for quilt makers of all skill levels — encouraging experimentation, confidence, and creative play using a wide range of styles and approaches. Karla encouraged the attendees to start where they are, use what they have, and do the best that they can. In addition, she suggested that quilters periodically review their stash and not hesitate to give away unwanted fabrics. Finally, at the end of completed projects, Karla advised quilters to use the WRAP technique — wonder, reflect, appropriate, ponder — to evaluate their project.
