April 12, 2026 CMQG Monthly Meeting
The April 12, 2026 meeting of the Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild (CMQG) was conducted at the Corvallis Museum. Colleen P., President, convened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. Susan S. graciously welcomed 43 members to the evening meeting. A special welcome was given to our two new members, Marylou M. and Shannon Mc.
Announcements
Members were reminded to use name badges and to leave the badges in the bowl at the end of the meeting.
The new Member Profile Directory is live and members can now update their information. As a reminder, be sure to add +1 when inserting your phone number in the directory. Also, members may refer to the April newsletter in the Resources section of the website for help updating the Member Profile Directory.
Monday, April 13, 2026, Alice M. and Colleen P. will be hosting the second programming planning meet-up on Zoom at 7:00.
This year the Board Leader’s Retreat was more of a functionality and process-oriented theme whereas last year the focus was guild vision.
For the 2027 Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, the guild will ask for an exception to the mandated quilt size so that it is more in line with the current design of the Modern Burgoyne Surrounded BOM, the exhibit theme.
In May, Beth R. will teach a fabric basket class. There will be a small fee associated with this class. Watch for upcoming details regarding the class (demo at May 14th meeting and optional paid class during Sew Day).
Program
This month’s program, Modern Piecing Play – Improv in Action, explored improv quilting through inspiration, demonstration, and conversation. Alice M. opened with a look at several influential modern quilters and how their approaches differ — reminding us there is no single “right way” to work. Colleen P. Shared a bit about Victoria Finley Wolfe and her concept of “15 Minutes of Play,” along with a couple of small quilts inspired by her techniques. JC B. and Carah G. then demonstrated two different improv approaches, giving members the chance to observe up close and ask questions as they worked.
New Small Group: Made Fabric Block Exchange
JC B. introduced a new ongoing opportunity inspired by Victoria Finley Wolfe’s “Made Fabric” practice, which will enable members to develop improv skills. Those members interested in the new group can find more information on the guild website.
Presentation Update
Pattie D. shared her experience about her recent presentation for the Umpqua Valley Quilters Guild on “What Exactly is Modern Quilting?” Pattie generously donated the $200 honorarium back to our guild. Thank you, Pattie. Pattie will be presenting again on June 11, 2026, at the Oregon Coastal Quilters Guild in Newport.
Guild Quilt on Display
Our QuiltCon community quilt “Porcelain Radiance” was on display during the meeting so members could view it up close.
Quilts in the Garden
Joyce L. and Marianne D. updated us about the progress of Quilts in the Garden with co-sponsor MRQG. Members were reminded to save the date, June 20, 2026, as many helping hands will be needed to make the event successful. Members should also start thinking about what quilts you might want to showcase, either your Honoring the Woman Farmer or other. Members can offer their quilts for sale with 10% of their sale donated to the guild.

International Quilting Day
As a way to celebrate International Quilting Day, Candy W. hosted a special sewing gathering at CPI on March 21, 2026. The activity for the day revolved around a live streaming event, Make an Improv Baby Quilt with Me, sponsored by The Modern Quilt Studio. Those attending the event shared their completed quilts with the guild.
Community Quilts
Mieke V. recently donated six guild quilts to Monarch on 4th in Corvallis and were much appreciated by the organization. As a reminder, please check the guidelines on the resource page of the guild website for specific information pertaining to donation quilts. Additionally, Mieke requested members wash their quilt prior to donating, at least if they were made with a spray basting as that substance is toxic for babies and children.
Get ’Er Done
Members shared their #10 completed projects with guild members. Those members completing the #10 project will have their name submitted into the drawing to be held at the end of the year. Anyone interested in learning more about Get ’Er Done may contact Candy W. The project to be completed for the May meeting is #2.
Show and Tell
Various members of the guild shared their delightful quilts with the membership.
Invitation
CMQG members are invited to attend the April 23, 2026 meeting of MRQG, where Marcia Derse will be the guest speaker. There will be no charge for CMQG members to attend the lecture.
