Made Fabric Block Exchange

Welcome to the Made Fabric Block Exchange! Our goal is to create and exchange blocks that incorporate improvisationally pieced scraps, otherwise known as “Made Fabric,” as described by Victoria Findlay Wolfe in 15 Minutes of Play.

Each month, one group member will act as facilitator, choosing that month’s block. Everyone in the group will create one block and give it to that month’s facilitator, who will then... do whatever! Create a quilt and keep it, create a quilt and give it away, give the blocks away, whatever: it’s the facilitator’s choice.

CMQG members who do not wish to participate in the exchange are of course welcome to create blocks of their own, but will not have the opportunity to act as facilitator or receive blocks from others.

A little clarification after last night's meeting! I realized from some of our conversations that a few of the choices for my block exchange weren't as obvious in my original post as I'd intended. So I've simplified the information here—and I made some additional sample blocks to show you the possibilities.

The most important thing: Make a scrappy block with a solid red house in the center, choose any one of the four seasons for your color inspiration, and and I'd appreciated it if you sign your block with your first and last name.

And if one little 6½" block doesn't use enough scraps for you, feel free to make more than one—you could even make all four seasons! See attached instructions for more details--added house template.

For September make the Slashing Block(s) from 15 Minutes of Play, using made fabric of the same colors (blues, reds, oranges, yellows, greens, purples, etc) with contrasting "slashes" of a solid, or reads as solid, fabric.
