November 2022 Meeting Recap

The Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild (CMQG) Monthly Meeting was a hybrid meeting via Zoom and in-person at the Corvallis Community Center. It started at 7pm, Nov 10, 2022, with Camille presiding. There were 20 in-person attendees and 6 Zoom attendees.

Craft Project: November’s meeting always features a hands-on craft project. This year’s was making cards with embroidery. Diana not only showed us how to do this, she also provided lots of examples and materials as well. Some very lovely cards were created by the group.

Name Tags: In the past we’ve used stick-on/throw away name tags. While we still have those available, we encourage people to bring their own name tags. Those who do get to put two tickets into the drawing. This month most people brought name tags.

Help with meeting setup: We need members to help with room setup and refreshments (cookies). We rent the room for two hours, 6:30 to 8:30 and would like the first ½ hour to be social time, so we must be prompt with setup and take down. Contact Pattie if you wish to help.

Raffle winners: Marty S and Susan C were this month’s raffle winners.

Quiltcon Quilt: Every year our guild participates in a quilt challenge sponsored by the Modern Quilt Guild. Together we make a quilt which is displayed at the national convention (Quiltcon) in February. Diana F is leading this project and will sew the blocks together. Barb of Bolts to Blocks will do the quilting. A photo of the quilt needs to be sent to Quiltcon by Dec 15.

December 8 Meeting: The December meeting is a holiday party where we do a special swap (see Holiday Swap) and dine together. All members are welcome, including those who don’t participate in the swap. This year it will be in the Corvallis Community Center and will be a potluck. An invitation with additional information will be sent out. Since the club will be providing party favors and some of the refreshments, we need an accurate head count. Please RSVP the invitation if you plan to attend.

Holiday Swap: Seventeen people signed up for the swap. Each participant will make a mini-quilt (96 to 144 inches perimeter) in the theme and shape their recipient chooses.

Block of the Month (BOTM): Lorna is leading this activity. We are making blocks from the book Quilt Improv by Lucie Summers. Our ninth block is Portholes on page 30. Participants will display their blocks during show-and-tell in December.

Sew Days: Usually the club has two Sew Days a month, one online via Zoom on the second Saturday of the month, and one in-person at Consumer Power on the 4th Saturday. However there is no in-person Sew Day in November because of the Thanksgiving holiday. Our next in-person Sew Day is Dec 3.

Show-and-tell: Twelve members had show-and-tell items this month. J.C. and Julie purchased 10 beautiful quilt tops at an estate sale and displayed them. They are keeping a few and the rest will be charity quilts. Several people volunteered to quilt the charity quilts.

Book Club: The book club meets monthly at 7pm on the last Wednesday of the month, which is Nov 30. This month’s book is The Kennedy Debutante by Kerrie Mahar. Next month’s book is The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. Contact Missy if you wish to participate.

Hand Sewing Group: There is no meeting of the hand sewing group in December.

The meeting ended at 8:30. Submitted by Nancy Mandel, secretary
