The Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild (CMQG) Monthly Meeting was at 7pm May 11,2023 with Camille Ainsworth presiding. Twenty-six people attended in-person and none attended via Zoom.
Program: Our speaker couldn’t attend so instead we shared “Work in progress” or “Why did I start that?” Thirteen people shared their in-progress works.
Show-and-tell: Seven members had Show-and-Tell items this month. The June meeting is Zoom only so please send photos of S&T items to CMQGphotos@gmail.com . We all enjoy seeing what our fellow quilters are doing.
Quilt Exhibit at Philomath Museum: We will be exhibiting quilts from July 29 through September 9 at the museum. Your best modern quilt is due by July 20, to be included in the show. Quilts that were exhibited at the Corvallis Museum last year will not be accepted. Our exhibit will also feature pieces from our 12 x 12-inch monochromatic mini-quilt challenge. Any quilt you wish to exhibit is due by July 20. Contact Janet for information.
Mini-Quilt Challenge: The challenge is to make a 12 x 12-inch, monochrome quilt. A monochrome quilt has two or more shades of a single hue. Yellow-green, Kelly green, and blue-green are different hues and therefore cannot be together in a monochrome quilt. White, gray, and black are not permitted except in a monochrome quilt with each other. Tone-ontone prints are permitted since these only contain different shades of one hue. These are completed quilts, not just blocks. Please bring quilts to the July 13th meeting. They are due by July 20. Contact Janet for more information.
June Monthly Meeting: Libs Elliott from Toronto, Canada will be our guest speaker, via Zoom. Libs creates quilts and patterns using generative software. Learn about her at her website libselliott.com. This program will only be open to current members of CMQG and be Zoom only.
July Monthly Meeting: Diana will make a presentation on quilted coats. The 12 ½ inch swap challenge blocks are due and the 12-inch challenge quilts and other entries for the quilt exhibit should be brought to the meeting.
Swap Challenge: Susan leads this. Members exchanged “ugly” fabrics (they were actually quite nice). Participants will make 12 ½ inch blocks with their received fabric and will swap again in July. These are blocks, not quilts.
Ultimate Finisher: Don’t forget that you can participate in the Ultimate Finisher contest. Sheets are $10 each and you can list up to ten projects on your sheet. You don’t need to list all ten projects in the beginning but can instead add projects to your list through the year. You just need to let Lorna know when you add a project. UF sheets and checks are sent to Lorna. See the website for details.
Book Club: The book club meets monthly at 7pm on the last Wednesday of the month, which is May 31. This month’s book Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. The June book is The Shadows of London by Nick Jones. It is the second of a series which started with And Then She Vanished. Contact Janet if you wish to participate.
