The Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild (CMQG) Monthly Meeting started via Zoom at 7pm, March 10, 2022, with Missy presiding and Camille handling the Zoom session. Forty-two people attended including two new members.
Guest Speaker: Blair Stocker, author of Wise Craft Quilts and inventor of the Ruby Ruler was our speaker and will teach a class on Saturday, March 12. Blair spoke on the importance of value (relative lightness and darkness) in quilts. She showed us examples of quilts where the fabrics had been sorted into two piles (light and dark) and quilts where the fabrics had been sorted into three piles (light, medium, and dark). She explained how a fabric can be considered dark when next to one fabric and light when next to a different one. The class will be “Find the Value in Your Stash”.
Raffle winners: Caroline and Joanne were this month’s raffle winners.
April Monthly Meeting: The April meeting will start at 6pm instead of our usual 7pm. This is to accommodate our guest speaker who is in New York. She is Kim Smith Soper of FeelGoodFibers.com and she will speak on Managing Your Stash.
Swap: The club’s next swap is a glasses case that is also perfect as a rotary cutter holder. The swap takes place at our April meeting. Eleven people are participating. Lorna and Susan lead this activity.
Community Project for 2022: We are making bags for the Cancer Center. Janet is leading this project. The bags are Smart Bags by the Quiltsmart Company. These bags are made from a pattern printed on fusible interfacing which you fuse onto your fabric. Janet has lots more of this available. Contact her if you wish to make bags.
Block of the Month (BOTM) for March: Lorna is leading this activity. We are making blocks from the book Quilt Improv by Lucie Summers. Our third block is Chained Pieced Strips on page 18. Participants will display their blocks during show-and-tell in April. Please send photos of your blocks to CMQGphotos@gmail.com.
Sew Day: Sew Day is online and is the 4th Saturday of each month which this month is March 26. It will start at 9am and end 4 to 6ish depending on participation.
