About the event
Use the Fabric: Permission to Cut — Part II
Join us for a relaxed, come-as-you-are weekend of sewing, conversation, and community. Whether you’re deep into a project, ready to start something new, or not quite sure what to bring, there’s a place for you at the table.
As we continue to embrace MQG’s 2026 theme, Use the Fabric, we’ve seen members use up scraps, cut into cherished fabrics, and give themselves permission to use what they’ve been saving for “someday.”
This fall, we’re carrying that spirit into our QuiltCon Community Challenge Quilt. We’ll be diving into our stashes to find prints and patterns that fit the color palette of our chosen design, adding richness and complexity to the quilt. Color swatches will be available at the September Monthly Meeting so you can search your stash for possibilities to contribute and bring to the retreat.
During the weekend, there will also be opportunities to work together on construction of the Community Challenge Quilt.
And, as always, the retreat is your sewing time. Bring your UFOs, start something new, or finally cut into the fabric you’ve been waiting to feel ready for – surrounded by encouragement, community, and plenty of time to sew.
We’ll also have door prizes, stretch breaks, and a few fun surprises throughout the weekend.

Lend a Hand
Our retreats are possible because everyone pitches in a little. We have a separate Help & Food Sign-Up for members who can bring food or supplies, help with setup or cleanup, or take on one of the other small jobs that keep the weekend running smoothly.
If you’re attending, please take a look and choose a way to help that works for you. Many hands really do make for an easier – and more enjoyable – retreat for everyone.
