August 2021 Meeting Recap

Welcome new members Florence Speight and Sara Power.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2021 Board of the CMQG. You can self-nominate! You can also volunteer to help with short-term projects of interest to you. Email your information to corvallismodernquiltguild@gmail.com.

Informal survey results re: in person monthly guild meetings. 64% of members responded as of Thursday morning, with the majority not wanting to gather in person for monthly meetings until the latest Covid surge has passed. We are committed to continuing with a Zoom component when we start gathering in person, so members from out of the area can still attend.

Call for quilts! The Guild will be participating in the September 16th Corvallis Arts Walk, displaying our creations at the offices of the Downtown Corvallis Association. We’d like to hang the small quilts created during our various guild challenges (the Color Challenge, the Improv Challenge and the Unconventional Materials Challenge) and the classes taught by Irene Roderick and Cindy Grisdela. Quilts are needed by September 1. Contact Camille to make arrangements.

Hand Sewing Mini Group. Meetings will take place in the offices of Keller Williams Realty (1121 NW 9th Street, next to Shari’s restaurant.) Masks will be required for all attendees. Schedule is September 12, October 3, November 7 and December 5, Sunday mornings from 10-1. Contact Missy to RSVP.

Upcoming classes. There is still space available for our two upcoming classes, on August 21 and September 18, taught by Christina Cameli. Please see the Store section of our website for details and to register.

Charity quilts. We have packages of E. Hartman blocks (each packet containing enough blocks to make one quilt top) that need piercing. We’re also looking for any stray Hartman blocks that may be floating around. Contact Sheila.

Photos and info needed for the members-only section of the website. Please take a selfie and send it in. You can also add your phone number, Instagram and Facebook name, if you desire. Please send to Ann.

Swap. Our current soup bowl cozy swaps were opened during the meeting, and the next swap was announced: needle books. Elfster sign ups are due by August 31, names will be assigned on September 1 and we’ll open during the meeting in October. Sign up using the link sent in email from Pattie (contact her if you need it resent.) Contact Lorna for questions about the swap.

QuiltCon Community Quilt 2022. The theme is angles and Diana is our quilt designer/coordinator. An email with directions for online sign ups will go out soon, and packets of fabric will be provided (please add your own touch by using solid white or white on white fabric from your stash.) There are blocks for all skill levels, and Diana will be offering a demo on foundation paper piercing for the intermediate blocks (TBD: details will be emailed.) Finished blocks will be due by October 31.
